As part of the Regional Bureau’s ongoing commitment to creating a diverse, inclusive, and respectful workplace environment, the DA-BFAR Caraga Gender and Development (GAD) Office hosted on Tuesday, March 12, 2024, the Gender Sensitivity Training for its women and men employees in celebration of the 2024 National Women’s Month with the recurring theme “WE for gender equality and inclusive society.”

Serving as resource speaker, Dr. Adrelline Mae J. Castaños, a GAD-certified technical adviser and project development officer IV from the Department of Education-Caraga, led the series of interactive learning sessions on the basic GAD concepts and principles such as: understanding the difference between sex and gender, sexual orientation, gender identity, gender expression and sexual characteristics (SOGIESC), gender roles, as well as agents of gender socialization and gender and power relations.

Dr. Castaños also tackled the use of gender-fair language, anti-sexual harassment in the workplace and the gender issues of men and women.

“The intention of Gender and Development advocacy is not to create competition between males and females. Rather, it is about providing equal opportunities for women so they can achieve their potential. Many women have been left behind and have been denied of their rights. It is our responsibility to help them achieve equal footing, the right to express their feelings, and the ability to voice their complaints,” Dr. Castaños emphasized.

“In this Women’s month, let’s give women the chance to be heard, and express our gratitude for all women. Let’s strive to bring happiness to their lives and help them realize their value and importance in the society,” Dr. Castaños added.

DA-BFAR regional GAD focal Elvera B. Sayas said that the training aims to raise awareness and enhance understanding of gender-related issues, promote sensitivity, and foster an inclusive workplace culture within the DA-BFAR family. (Andy T. Ordoña, Information Officer, DA-BFAR Caraga)
