An early morning stocking of tilapia fingerlings were made in the pond areas of Mr. Jejobel E. Juntilla of Barangay Noli and Mr. Metodio C. Jamero of Barangay San Isidro, Thursday, April 15, 2021. Both farmers are from Bayugan City, Agusan del Sur.
The activity was realized under the Special Areas for Agricultural Development (SAAD) Program, through the collaborative effort of the Provincial Fisheries Office of Agusan del Sur, BFAR Kitcharao Technology Outreach Station and the City Agriculture Office of Bayugan City. Present in the activity were Mayor Kirk A. Asis, OIC-City Agriculturist Sylvia A. Pama and PFO Bimbo C. Lagare.
The highlight of their message was to strengthen their collaboration to achieve the goal of fish sufficiency and poverty alleviation among the fisherfolk and farmers of the city.
Through the SAAD Program, each beneficiary received 6,000 pcs tilapia fingerlings worth Php 2,700.00 and 37 bags of feed inputs worth Php 36,000.00.
Mayor Asis expressed support by announcing to host a “harvest festival” this coming August to ensure the marketing of the fish products.
As per record, LGU Bayugan City has seven (7) SAAD household beneficiaries for aquaculture livelihood. To boost knowledge and capacity of farmers and fishers, PFO Lagare committed that the Regional Bureau will extend its continued support for the fishery development initiatives of the LGU through fishery technology demonstrations and capacity enhancement activities.
