Technical Staff Attend AquaR Skills Training
BUTUAN CITY, Agusan del Norte, March 26
The Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources (BFAR) Central Office Aquaculture Division in coordination with BFAR Caraga is conducting a technical training on Aqua Farm Registration (AquaR) Tool at the Caraga State University in Butuan City from March 25-30, 2019.
The three-day activity was initially participated by about 40 aqua technicians, lab analysts and Provincial Fishery Officers from Regions 9 and 10. The technical staff from Regions 11-13 will be attending the second half of the training.
Sharing their expertise on the tool and on aquafarm mapping were Dr. Rolyn C. Daquil, ICT Director of Caraga State University (CSU), and Marco Paulo G. Capras, United Nations-Food and Agriculture Office (UN-FAO) Project Consultant.
The technical training aimed for the nationwide adoption of the AquaR tool for the inventory and registration of aquaculture farms.
The said tool, which was developed by BFAR, CSU and UN-FAO, is a proposed solution that would help in facilitating the inventory of the aquaculture farms and monitoring using geospatial or mapping technologies.
The information consolidated with the system would help in creating effective and evidence-based plans and strategies to institutionalize Good Aquaculture Practices (GAqP).
