Around 20 fisherfolk beneficiaries in Cagdianao, Dinagat Islands were trained on the procedures of the fabrication, repair and maintainance of the fiberglass-reinforced plastic (FRP) boats under F/B Pagbabago Livelihood Development Program of BFAR.
Tagged as 'Bangka ko, Gawa ko', the program aims not just to provide livelihood assistance through the provision of FRP boats for the Filipino fishermen but to also encourage and build cooperativism among the fishing communities through the aforementioned skills development training.
Expected to produce ten (10) units of 25-footer localized FRP boats, the 6-day training was fronted by the Program Focal Person Mr. Restituto Bautista together with some fiberglass technician of the Fisheries Production and Support Services Division of BFAR Caraga. The training ran from February 13 to February 18, 2019 at Brgy. Cabonga-an, Cagdianao, Dinagat Islands.
The same training will soon be conducted at Cortes, Surigao del Sur upon the execution of the Memorandum of Agreement between the local government unit and BFAR.
