DA Sec. Pinol turns-over agri-fisheries projects to Agusan del Sur
As the Department of Agriculture (DA) Secretary Emmanuel “Manny” Piñol graced the first Upland Sustainable Agri- Forestry Development (USAD) Program and Agrilympics which was held at the Datu Lipus Makapandong Cultural Center (formerly called Naliyagan Cultural Center) in time with the silver celebration of the Naliyagan Festival, simultaneously he also turned-over various agri-fisheries intervention to the said province.
Funded by the Department of Agriculture, Sec. Piñol turned-over to Farmers’ Association/ Cooperatives the 10 units rice thresher, two units mechanical rice transplanter, five units mini warehouse and the presentation of the 2017 DA intervention for agricultural development project in Agusan del Sur. In the fisheries sector, through the Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources-Caraga headed by its Regional Director, Dr. Juan D. Albaladejo, Sec. Pinol handed-over 10 units of 20 footer motorized fiberglass boats with complete accessories, 7 units of Tilapia Culture in Cage, 21 sites of Tilapia Culture in Pond and 1 million initial seedlings of Tilapia Fingerlings to be distributed in the commonal bodies of water all throughout the Province of Agusan del Sur.
Gov. Adolph Edward Plaza also took advantage of having the DA Secretary, the turning over of Provincial Government’s funded agricultural equipments ranging from five units rice cutter, four units mobile single pass rice mill, four units hand tractors, two units corn sheller, one unit 4-wheel drive farm tractor, two units multi-function tiller/cultivator, one unit Pinawa rice mill and one unit warehouse.
Sec. Pinol also met the farmers and fisherfolks of Agusan del Sur to personally hear their concerns and needs through a Farmers and Fisherfolks Forum.
USAD, thru Sec. Piñol and Gov. Plaza, also presented the awards to the most outstanding USAD farmer enrollees and Gawad Saka.
Meanwhile, being the first USAD Agrilympics, enrollees from different USAD areas competed in the conduct of Larong Lahi like eggplant relay, synchronous walking, sack race, coco grating, Kamote Eating contest, fish relay, flour weighing, human race and kadang-kadang. Prizes were given away to the winners of the different competitions.
DA Sec. Manny Piñol was the keynote speaker of the Agrilympics while Gov. Plaza delivered his inspirational message.
