Farmers' and Fisherfolk's Month Celebration formally kicks off
Once again the Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources celebrated the Farmers' and Fisherfolk's Month for the whole month of May. In consonance to the said month-long celebration is also the implementation of the Fisherfolk Directorship Program which is now on its 13th year.
During the opening program which was undertaken at White Beach Resort located in the Municipality of Cagwait, Surigao del Sur on the 2nd of May, the official Turn-over ceremony and installation of the 2017 Regional Fisherfolk Director (RFD) took place.
Before the ceremony began, the outgoing RFD for 2016 in the person of Mr. Renito Mendana, tackled his experiences during his one month stint as Fisherfolk Director last year. He gladly shared his learnings and adventures as he visited the many projects of BFAR implemented in the whole region. He greatly emphasized how fulfilling the experience was and did fully understand how the clerical works should be carefully taken care of especially the accounting processes within the office. Right after giving his words of challenges to the incoming RFD, a short video presentation of his last year's directorship was shown.
After the presentation, a short introduction of the incoming RFD was given by the toastmaster of the event. This year's RFD is a natural born Filipina who was raised in Manolo Fortich, Bukidnon. RFD Priscila E. Suico was a graduate of Bachelor of Science in Commerce in Cagayan Capitol College in the year 1983. Now aged 60, RFD Suico who happened to be happily married to former 2014 RFD Sammy Suico was blessed with three children. They are currently making a living at Purok-7, Poblacion, Barobo, Surigao del Sur. She is actively involved in many fishery councils in their locality. She is a representative in the Fishery Sector in their Municipal Agriculture and Fisheries Council (MAFC) in Barobo as well as a member of the Municipal Peace and Order Council (MPOC) in the same town. Currently, she is also the Deputized Secretary in their Fishery Law Enforcement Team and the Chairwoman of their Municipal Fisheries and Aquatic Resource Management Council (MFARMC). RFD Suico is the second female Regional Fisherfolk Director ever chosen in Caraga Region.
When the Symbol of Responsibility was finally turned-over by 2016 RFD Mendana to RFD Suico, she immediately delivered her acceptance message. In her message she stressed that she know very well that she has a lot of work to be done while in office yet she is optimistic that she may be able to deliver the services expected of her with the help of the whole management and staff of BFAR-CARAGA.
Meanwhile, a ceremonial turn-over of Check for a CFLC project to be soon established in the Municipality of Cagwait was conducted. It was the Municipal Mayor of the said town, Hon. Lillian Y. Lozada who personally received the check. She also gave an inspirational message which she sincerely thanked BFAR with its continuous support by consistently providing them with the numerous fishery interventions solely intended to the marginal fisherfolk in her town.
When the lunch break was over, the Honorable Mayor together with whole management of BFAR-13 proceeded to Brgy. Aras-asan, Cagwait, Surigao del Sur for the official Ground Breaking Ceremony of Jetty Port and Community Fish Landing Center (CFLC) that will soon rise in the above-mentioned barangay.
