BUTUAN CITY — Celebrating nearly eight decades of public service, the Department of Agriculture–Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources (DA-BFAR) in the Caraga Region marked its 79th founding anniversary on Wednesday, July 1, 2026, with a renewed pledge to deliver faster, more responsive, and people-centered services for the region’s inland and coastal fishing communities.
The celebration brought together officials and employees for a series of sports competitions, team-building activities, and the presentation of service loyalty awards held at the DA-BFAR Masao Aquaculture Center.
Regional director Omnia B. Olama reminded employees that the anniversary theme, “Ahensyang Aksyon Agad,” must serve as a daily commitment to deliver timely and meaningful services to fishing communities across the region.
“Our theme reminds us of what we, as public servants, should always do,” RD Olama said.
“Our foremost responsibility is to serve our primary clients—the fisherfolk. This commitment should guide us not only during this celebration but every day as we carry out our mandate,” the regional director added.
RD Olama challenged employees to act with urgency, stressing that opportunities to serve should never be postponed.
“Let us not wait for tomorrow because tomorrow is not promised,” Olama said, urging personnel to continue working together and strengthen teamwork across offices to better fulfill the bureau’s mission.
The regional director also credited DA-BFAR Caraga’s accomplishments to the collective efforts of every employee, regardless of employment status.
“The recognition we receive from the top management is not mine alone. It belongs to all of you,” RD Olama said. “Whether you are regular, contractual, or job order personnel, DA-BFAR values your work. Every contribution, big or small, has helped us achieve our successes.”
Employees also took part in friendly competitions, including volleyball, table tennis, pickleball, chess, a quiz bowl, and traditional Filipino games, promoting camaraderie and teamwork among personnel.
The celebration likewise honored employees who have dedicated years of service to advancing the bureau’s mission.
Chief Rizalinda L. Abing of the Fisheries Production and Support Services Division received recognition for 25 years in government service, together with Hedjarah M. Amerol and Hattah M. Sumndad of the Fisheries Inspection and Quarantine Services. Matt T. Alcantara, officer-in-charge of the Fisheries Resource Management Section, was also recognized for his 10 years in government service.
The Human Resource Management Section likewise presented certificates of recognition and tokens to select job order personnel for their dedication and valuable contributions to the agency.
As DA-BFAR prepares to enter its 80th year, the regional office reaffirmed its commitment to strengthening programs that improve fisherfolk livelihoods, build resilient coastal communities, and ensure the sustainable management of Caraga’s fisheries and aquatic resources.#
