In a move to promote inclusivity and equality in the fisheries sector and in line with the celebration of the 2025 National Women’s Month, the Department of Agriculture — Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources (DA-BFAR) Caraga, through its Gender and Development (GAD) Office, conducted a Gender Sensitivity Training (GST) for its personnel on Wednesday, March 19, 2025, at the BFAR Masao Aquaculture Center, Butuan City.

Oliver O. Salino, a GAD-certified technical adviser and training specialist II from the Commission on Human Rights, served as the resource speaker and led the series of interactive learning sessions on the review of legal imperatives on gender and development, HERstory and development of women’s human rights, and basic gender concepts and principles.

Regional director Omnia B. Olama, in her message during the training, emphasized the significance of this year’s sub-theme, “Babae sa Lahat ng Sektor, Aangat ang Bukas sa Bagong Pilipinas,” which reflects the agency’s shared vision where every woman, regardless of background or circumstance, continue to thrive and bring meaningful contributions in the society.

“Beyond the celebration of Women’s Month, let us continue to work towards achieving equality, respect, and dignity for all, regardless of gender,” Olama stressed.

“Gender sensitivity is not just about awareness—it is about action. It is about creating an environment free of bias, where everyone is valued, heard, and supported,” RD Olama added. 

“Let us continue to strive for a world, where every person, regardless of their gender or religion, can reach their fullest potential,” the regional director added.

Mikee Marie Y. Badian, the newly designated DA-BFAR regional GAD focal, said that the training aims to raise awareness and understanding of GAD concepts, promote sensitivity, and foster an inclusive workplace culture within the Regional Bureau.
