The Department of Agriculture – Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources (DA-BFAR) Caraga, through its Fisheries Management Area (FMA) Coordinating Unit (FMA)-13 and in collaboration with the Regional Project Implementing Unit (RPIU)-9, formally capped off the last leg of the FMA-9 FishCoRe Project roadshow in Caraga region on February 20-21, 2025, at the Grand Palace Hotel in Butuan City.

Bringing together key stakeholders from the national government agencies, local government units, and fisherfolk groups, the event served as a platform to deepen their understanding of its goal, objectives and the areas of priority of the FishCoRe Project, particularly the three components of the project—Fisheries and Coastal Resilient Resource Planning and Management (FISHCRRM), Modern and Resilient Livelihood Investment (MARLIN), and Support to Project Implementation and Management (SuPrIM).

Stakeholders were also briefed on key updates regarding the Philippine Aquaculture Development and Management Plan (ADMP) and the status of FMA-9, reinforcing the project’s role in advancing sustainable fisheries management and ensuring stakeholders remain informed about recent developments.

With climate change posing an increasing threat to coastal communities, FishCoRe’s Environmental and Social Framework was also presented which sets out the project’s vision for sustainable development.

The program also tackled the FishCoRe Subproject Matching Grants, aimed at supporting local fishery-based enterprises and promoting green development.

Funded by the World Bank, FishCoRe is a seven-year project that focuses on enhancing the region’s fisheries value chain, promoting science-based policies, and implementing community-based coastal resource management strategies in FMA-6 and 9.
