Committed to provide excellent services in sustainable fisheries management, the DA-Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources in Caraga Region celebrated its 76th founding anniversary on Monday, July 3, 2023.

This year’s founding anniversary carries the theme: “Isang Ahensyang Nagkakaisa Tungo sa Pagkamit ng Masaganang Pangisdaan at Maunlad na Ekonomiya.”

Highlights of the celebration were the holy mass presided over by Rev. Fr. Paul Pueblas, followed by the blessing and inauguration of the regional bureau’s fish processing hub and the launching of the Kadiwa ng Pangulo “Tabo sa BFAR Caraga” trade fair.

The newly inaugurated regional fish processing hub is designed to serve as a training and technology demonstration center for fish processing and value-adding related activities of the fisherfolk. It will also serve as a display center of value-added products produced by the local micro small and medium enterprises (MSMEs).

Additionally, the launching of the Kadiwa ng Pangulo “Tabo sa BFAR Caraga” aims to provide an avenue for the farmers and fisherfolk to sell agricultural goods and fisheries products directly to consumers without the trader-intermediaries, allowing them to earn higher profits while still providing quality products at an affordable price. The said event posted an estimated Php61,747 in total sales.

In her message, regional director Omnia B. Olama remarked the importance of remembering the values that have guided the organization throughout the years, serving as beacons of inspiration and its guiding principles.

“May this celebration serve as a reminder of the power of unity and the immense potential we possess when we work together towards a common goal,” RD Olama said.

The regional director also called on its employees to continue to uphold excellent service, guided by the DA-BFAR core values – integrity, professionalism, and innovativeness.

“We have strived to create an environment that fosters growth, nurtures inclusivity, and embraces diversity. These values will continue to be the pillars on which we build our future,” the regional director added.

RD Olama further encouraged the employees to rekindle their commitment in the pursuit of sustainable fisheries management.

“As we envision a future marked by abundance and prosperity, let us not rest on our laurels but rather rededicate ourselves to the task at hand. Let us strive relentlessly to achieve abundant fisheries and a prosperous economy, ensuring the well-being of both present and future generations,” the regional director concluded.
