Regional Fisherfolk Director Dr. Rey Salvador Convocar formally ended his term as the DA-Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources (BFAR) Caraga capped off the celebration of the Farmers’ and Fisherfolk’s Month (FFM) last Monday, June 5, 2023 at the Regional Fisherfolk Training Center in Butuan City.
Throughout his tenure, RFD Convocar dedicated his time to immersing himself in various fisheries projects and activities, gaining firsthand experience of the operations and project implementations of DA-BFAR in the Caraga region.
During his farewell message, RFD Convocar expressed his gratitude to the Regional Bureau for their unwavering support during his time as this year’s Mangingisdang Direktor.
Drawing from his field experiences, the AgSurnon regional fisherfolk director also delivered a comprehensive presentation highlighting the challenges faced by the fisheries sector and provided valuable recommendations for improvement.
In response, Regional Director Omnia B. Olama encouraged the DA-BFAR Caraga personnel to draw inspiration from the stories of the fisherfolk and the sacrifices they make daily to ensure availability of food.
“Let us pledge to support and uplift these hardworking individuals and their families. Let us stand by them in their struggles, advocate for their needs, and ensure that they have the resources, tools, and knowledge to thrive in their noble professions,” RD Olama added.
Further, the good regional director also urged everyone to champion sustainable farming and fishing practices while emphasizing the protection and conservation of fisheries and aquatic resources for future generations.
