Local buyers and consumers in Cagwait will now have access to fresh, safe and affordable fishery products as the municipal government of Cagwait, Surigao del Sur marked the grand opening of their community fish landing center (CFLC) and jetty port, on Wednesday, February 8, 2023 in Aras-asan, Cagwait, Surigao del Sur.

Likewise, Cagwaitnon fisherfolk will now have a trading center which will serve as a consolidation area for their fish catch and provide better market opportunities.

In her message, RD Olama lauded the efforts of LGU Cagwait for realizing the said fishery projects, and for their initiative in expanding the CFLC building to cater all their registered municipal fish brokers.

“I hope that with your operational plan and mechanisms in placed, this will serve as a model for other LGUs to replicate the strategies you have implemented in the realization of these projects,” RD Olama expressed.

“To our fisherfolk partners, my wishes for your organization is to grow and flourish over time. Value what the government has given you. And always remember that the success of the operation of these facilities lies in your coordination and cooperation as a group,” the regional director added.

RD Olama also urged the legislative body of LGU Cagwait to continue to support legislations which are beneficial not only for the fisherfolk but also for the integrity of the environment – particularly the fisheries and aquatic resources.

“Finally, I call on everyone to continue to support the BFAR programs as we envision to modernize and accelerate the fisheries industry here in Caraga region,” RD Olama concluded.

The newly launched fish landing center in Cagwait is the 21st operational CFLC established in Caraga region.
