FISH ‘N LEARN | The Regional Fisheries Training and Fisherfolk Coordination Division of the DA-Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources recently held the simulation of financial education game for fishers “Fish N Learn” on September 20, 2022 at the Regional Fisherfolk Training Center, Masao, Butuan City.
The Fish N’ Learn was developed through the partnership of the Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas (BSP), BDO Foundation, Fish Right Program of the US Agency for International Development (USAID) and Department of Agriculture – Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources (DA-BFAR) to improve the financial literacy of the fishing communities across the country.
Through the use of a fun and engaging game, Fish ‘N Learn simulates real-life situations that have an impact on how fisherfolk behave financially by fostering good financial habits and values among fishermen.

Important key messages about financial literacy and marine conservation were introduced throughout the game, including the following:
1. Maging mapagkalinga sa karagatan (Nurture oceans and aquatic resources);2. Mag-impok para sa kinabukasan (Save for the furture);3. Magpalago ng kita sa pamamagitan ng pagne-negosyo (Expand income sources by putting up a business);4. Magsiguro para protektado (Get insurance for protection); at5. Maging matalino sa pag-utang (Use debt wisely).

The Fish ‘N Learn game was successfully launched and turned over to DA-BFAR in May 2022 during the celebration of the Farmers’ and Fisherfolk’s Month. The RFTFCD and the Provincial Fisheries Offices (PFOs) were provided with the game materials and trainers underwent capacity-building Training of Trainers (TOT) to ensure proper cascading and roll out to fishermen beneficiaries. The present simulation aims to capacitate more regional trainers from the DA-BFAR Caraga.
RFTFCD Chief Anna Melissa M. Talavera said that the Training Division, in partnership with the BFAR Provincial Fisheries Offices, is targeting to roll-out the incorporation of the “Fish ‘N Learn” in the future capability trainings of DA-BFAR Caraga.
