The Department of Agriculture – Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources (DA-BFAR)-Caraga, represented by Regional Director Dr. Nilo Selim Katada signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with the Action Against Hunger on September 12, 2022, on the implementation of “Continuing Emergency Assistance to Support Local Recovery Capacity of Families and Communities Affected by Typhoon Odette” (TY Odette Response), a 6-month project which aims to restore agri- and aquaculture production systems and improve food security of vulnerable farming and fishing families most affected by Typhoon Odette.

The main objective of the MOU is the collaboration of Action Against Hunger and DA-BFAR Caraga, in non-exclusive basis, on project activities and initiatives of mutual interest consistent with their respective mission and mandates in addressing the needs of the most marginalized fishing communities of the Action Against Hunger project areas in the Caraga region.

Under the MOU, DA-BFAR Caraga will designate a focal person who will directly coordinate with Action Against Hunger on the implementation of the Typhoon Odette Response Project activities on fishing and aquaculture to ensure effective and efficient collaboration between parties in achieving the Project targets. It will also support the implementation of projects in the provinces of Surigao del Norte and Dinagat Islands through provision of technical support as resource persons, as needed, and share training and information
